Blessing
“I will bless them that bless thee…” (Genesis 12:3). Jewish life is replete with “berakhot” – blessings. Blessings for food & wine. Blessings for smelling fragrant oils, fruits & plants. Blessings for sight & hearing and so forth.
Perhaps the most intriguing blessing is the “Birkat Kohanim,” or the “Priestly Blessing” sometimes called “Aarons’ Blessing.”
“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).
The blessing was recited daily by the priests. They would ascend to a special platform, cover their heads and with outstretched arms recited the ancient blessing. The blessing starts with petition for material blessing, then spiritual blessing and finally the greatest blessing of all “Shalom” – Peace.
The blessing points the pilgrim to a personal encounter with God. This is the only way to find true peace. The Lord Jesus became the “Passover Lamb,” the atonement for sin. The prophet stated that the Messiah “was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
As a result of the cross, you and I can have a personal encounter with God through the shed blood of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus, by trusting in Him alone for salvation.
Jesus said He was the Messiah and His life, death and resurrection was proof. It is only through the Messiah, the Lord Jesus that you and I can fully understand and experience Aaron’s Blessing in finding true provision, purpose and peace.
Shalom and Blessings,
Until He comes, we are
