Things Holy!

Things holy!

Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground (Exodus 3:5, NLT)

Sandals were made of dead skin from an animal. His sandals stepped in all kind of filthy things.  Moses is now in the presence of the holy.  He is in God’s presence.

Assembly:

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20, NKJV).  Meeting in Jesus’ name is holy ground where He meets with His children.

Rabbis echo the Lord’s words:

“When two sit together and words of Torah pass between them, the Divine Presence rests between them” Mishnah Avot 3:3

“When three eat at one table and speak the words of Torah there, it is as though they have eaten from the table of God.” Mishnah Avot 3:4

Scripture reading, communion, & baptism are things holy.

Before working with Israel, I was a pastor for 17 years. In my last church alone, within a 5 year-period, I had 121 baptisms.  I took the time to communicate a holy emphasis and celebration. Moments like this are not for entertainment purposes – they are holy.

C.S. Lewis had sharp comments about worship services. Read his words carefully and slowly:

“Novelty…can have only an entertainment value.  The perfect church service would be one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God.

But every novelty prevents this.  It fixes our attention of the service itself; and thinking about worship is a different thing from worshiping.  Tis mad idolatry that makes the service greater than the God.” – from Letters to Malcom: Chiefly on Prayer

When we gather and worship, remember, there are things holy!
